Hormonal Problems faced by Women
One of the most important signs of Health considered in Women is the Menstrual cycle. Most of the problems and disorders faced by Women is due to the menstrual disturbances.
A Healthy Endocrine System
The Organs that make Hormones, then release them into the blood and transport to all the body parts, is the Endocrine System, which plays an important role in regulating the menstrual cycle. The Endocrine glands are – ‘pituitary, thyroid, pancreas, adrenal and the ovaries’, these have a role in hormonal balancing of the menstrual cycle. The menstrual cycle pattern also reflects the internal health of the woman endocrine glands and irregular menstrual cycles may lead to chronic disorders such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), PCOD, Fertility, Hypothyroidism and Diabetes.
Normal Periods
Menstrual cycle is a natural event that occurs for females of reproductive age and these cycles occur rhythmically. It typically begins at the age of 12 to 15 years, marking the onset of puberty and ceases at the age of 45 to 50 years, a phase known as menopause. The length of the menstrual cycle is generally 28 days, but due to some conditions it may vary between 20 and 40 days. Normally the bleeding phase lasts 2 to 7 days and occurs every 21-35 days.
About 14 to 25% of women suffer from irregular menstrual cycles, meaning the periods may be heavier or lighter than usual or last longer or shorter or they face other issues, such as abdominal cramps, bleeding or spotting between periods, bleeding or spotting after sex, or do not get periods for 3-6 months.
Irregular Periods
A Woman has an irregular menstrual cycle if her cycle length is less than 21 days or more than 35 days, or if the blood flow is less or very severe. Irregular periods may occur due to changes in the levels of estrogen and progesterone hormones, which disturb the normal cycle of periods.
Many women consider these irregularities normal, but in the long term, they may be associated with various medical conditions. Menstrual disorders are one of the most common gynecological complaints of women, a common problem that continues from menarche to menopause.
